In our first year of business at The Pumpkin Ranch, this was one of the most commonly asked questions from our customers. Last year, when we decided to start a pumpkin patch, determining how many seeds we needed for 10 acres proved to be a little more challenging than we originally thought. Why? First of all, there are hundreds ofvarieties of orange pumpkins! Before we started this business, an orange pumpkin was just an orange pumpkin to me! The second biggest challenge is the fact that all the seed come in different quantities, have different maturity time and yield different amounts of fruit.
But in the end, for 10 acres of land, we planted around 35,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash seeds. Thankfully, this was not done by hand! The picture on the right shows a few of my favorites from last year.
